Bio
After studying International Relations in Exeter and Shanghai, Emily began her career working for international development nonprofits in Ghana and Bangladesh. Emily went on to work for London & Partners, the Mayor of London’s economic development agency, initially as a foreign direct investment specialist and latterly as Head of Corporate Engagement. Having experience in the public, private and nonprofit sectors prompted Emily to think about how these sectors can best collaborate to solve the world's biggest problems. To truly understand the different theories and models for combining profit and purpose, Emily completed an Executive MSc in Social Business and Entrepreneurship at the London School of Economics in 2020/21. This course led her to the work of Founders Pledge, and she joined as a Growth Lead in early 2022.
Outside of work, you’ll find Emily wild swimming, rollerblading, indulging in guilty pleasure musical theatre, and travelling as much as possible.
Q&A with Emily
Q: If you could choose anyone famous (real or fictional) to have dinner with who would they be and why?
I’ve always been fascinated by the Tudors, so I’d love to meet Elizabeth I. She was a real female powerhouse, and probably has some good gossip to share too!
Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An eclectic mix of professions, from detective, to pub landlord, to lawyer, to Tudor. However, a theme of altruistic careers runs through my family, so I think I always knew I’d end up wanting to make the world a better place.
Q: If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be, who would play you?
An adventure film all about a young woman who travels around Asia on her own, and the weird and wonderful people she meets on the way. I’d be played by someone very British - perhaps Claire Foy or Emily Blunt.
